I write books—everything from picture books for the youngest to young adult novels. Fiction and non fiction. More than 30 books in all.
By day I’m the Children’s Books Editor at Booklist Magazine, the review journal of the American Library Association. Every book published in a year comes into my office and I look at almost every one. All 6,000 of them.
I’m surrounded by books.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
"Cooper's novel gently circles around themes of overcoming pain and applying one's talents. The characters and setting are lovingly crafted, and readers will be left contemplating the roles of luck, magic, and inner strength in the kids' transformed lives."
"Ilene Cooper presents a remarkably grounded tale of 4 middle-schoolers whose lives are changed in positive ways while they have a lucky angel charm . . . No religion sign-up sheet required, just a realistic interest in change."
Jake's Best Thumb

The Golden Rule

Up Close: Oprah Winfrey
"Cooper tackles one of the richest and most famous women in the world, recounting her complicated life and extraordinary history with honesty and clarity . . . sure to find a rapt audience." —Kirkus Reviews
Sam I Am
"Rarely, very rarely, a book comes along that is more than just a story. It becomes a Very Important Book, carrying far more weight than just the stack of its pages. Ilene Cooper has written such a book."
